General Longstreet, commander of the Confederate army, sings a gut wrenching ballad, first about the deaths of several of his children, and then about his soldiers. His soldiers have become his family, and he knows that tomorrow's battle will be a costly one, ending in thousands of his men being killed.  We see the tender human side of a commanding officer and his deep devotion to his troops.
