Michael Coleman attended Rutgers University from which he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Arts, graduating cum laude. He received his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Redlands graduating summa cum laude, and was inducted into the Alfred North Whitehead Leadership Society in recognition of his academic achievements and demonstrated leadership ability. His 19-year career encompasses directing, writing, producing, and management experience in live theatre, live entertainment, television commercials, and radio commercials.
After receiving his Bachelor's degree, Mr. Coleman co-owned and operated a diverse theatrical production company founded in the early 1980's. The company specialized in all phases of entertainment including theatre, concerts, and benefits and produced shows with talent such as Red Skelton, Victor Borge, President Gerald Ford, Andy Williams, Beverly Sills, Danny Kaye, Tony Bennett, Doug Henning, Tom Jones, and The Vienna Choir Boys. During this time, Mr. Coleman also wrote television and radio commercials in Los Angeles. Mr. Coleman then worked for seven years at The Walt Disney Company (special events) as Producer, Director, and Writer. He conceived, created, wrote, and directed the opening ceremony and ongoing game entertainment for The Mighty Ducks NHL Hockey Team. He also directed The Disney Learning Channel's 14-city literacy tour; the opening production number for Disneyana, a multi-million dollar industrial performance; the recording and editing of Roger Rabbit voice-overs for Disney theme parks with Charles Fleisher; Rufus Riddlemacher's Rousing Radio Show! and the Georgetown's 200th Anniversary Los Angeles satellite hookup for Chairman Michael Eisner. He wrote the musical composition, Rock the Pond - The Mighty Ducks NHL Hockey Team theme song, and the theme song for D 2 The Mighty Ducks Original Movie Soundtrack for Disney. Mr. Coleman's additional writing credits for Disney include The Disney Learning Channel Literacy Tour; Club Rainforest, a new attraction for Disneyland; Lion King, a new attraction for Disneyland; The Nightmare Before Christmas stage show for Disney's El Capitan Theatre; and Rufus Riddlemacher's Rousing Radio Show! In addition, he created and conceived numerous live shows for Disney's Wescott Center, which eventually became California Adventures, and produced Disney's internationally, run performances of the Broadway musical, Beauty and the Beast. Outside of Disney, Mr. Coleman's directorial credits include directing the children in the national tour of The King and I starring the late Yul Brynner, which went to Broadway. He also directed the gangster scenes, placed the understudies for Sugar in Los Angeles starring Robert Morse, and directed by Andy Bew. He directed The London Symphony Orchestra's recordings in London and in Los Angeles; the Andy Williams Christmas Show in 1984; The Red Skelton Show at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in 1987; The Glory of Easter in Los Angeles from 1984 to 1986 starring Gregory Peck, Michael York, and the late Robert Reed; The Glory of Christmas in Los Angeles from 1984 to 1986 starring Debby Boone, Dean Jones, and the London Symphony Orchestra; and Theatre for America, a non-profit benefit concert of an original musical in 1989. He was the characterization coach for Ballet Unlimited's (a Pacific ballet company) performance of Scheherazade; and the head of workshop production for The Last Affair at The Actors Professional Conservatory. Mr. Coleman has been associate producer for a number of plays including The Glory of Christmas and The Glory of Easter in Los Angeles from 1984 to 1986. He also created and conceived new work for The Glory of Christmas and rewrote dialogue and narration for Gregory Peck and Michael York in The Glory of Easter, which won Best Stage Play in 1984. In addition, he wrote The Last Affair, which was performed in Southern California at Rancho Santiago College; the stage reading of Retribution at First Stage in Los Angeles; and Stucco-Land. He wrote the book and partial musical score for Home and wrote libretto, lyrics, and music for Crossroads to Freedom, a musical for Broadway. He also wrote the musical composition, Our Best Treasure, which was sung by Debby Boone, and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
